UNC Charlotte Eligibility Requirements
Students who successfully complete the associate of science degree at Gaston College and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College as a scholarship recipient and who meet all eligibility criteria at one of the partner community colleges will automatically be offered scholarships in the biology major at UNC Charlotte.
For scholarships not filled by students transferring from the SPARC4 program at the two community college partners, recruitment and selection will emphasize identifying transfer students from community colleges who:
- Have earned an AS degree
- Are high performing in math and science, with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and above
- Have unmet financial need (verified through the FAFSA application)
- Are intending to major in biology
Current and new students at UNCC who are transferring with an AS degree from a community college will be eligible to apply in your Niner Scholars Portal (information below).

-
Complete the SPARC4 application
- Once you’ve created your Niner Scholars profile, the SPARC4 application should appear in your available scholarships. If you do not see the SPARC4 application within 48 hours of completing your profile, please contact us via email at sparc4@uncc.edu.
-
The application package will include:
- A place to upload any and all college transcripts demonstrating that you have earned an associates of science degree
- SPARC4 STEM question that helps to determine eligibility
Scholarships will be renewable up to three years. In the event that this process does not fill scholarships, we will expand the search to graduates of other area community colleges.
Maintaining Eligibility: In order to remain eligible, scholarship recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher, participate in all data collection activities (surveys and interviews), update FASFA for each year, and complete the cohort courses on schedule. If a scholar’s GPA falls below 2.75, they will be placed on probationary status for one semester. During the probationary semester, and each following semester, the scholar must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or will risk losing the scholarship.
